Town continue unbeaten run but Mick concedes fortune favoured Blues

Mick McCarthy said it was an important point for Town at Barnsley but admitted it was a fortunate one as well.

Tom Lawrence’s 11th goal of the season with the last kick of the game from Brett Pitman's excellent cross cancelled our Marley Watkins’ opener and stretched Blues’ unbeaten run to eight games.

“We were fortunate today. We have stolen a point but I’ll take it. I’m delighted with it actually and it’s an important one,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“It’s another unbeaten game and we’ve deserved more than a point in some of those matches but today, we got lucky.

“I was very disappointed with the way we played. They were better than us but sometimes you can get something when you have not played well and we have managed that here.

“Brett has been out of the team and he’s not been happy about that and rightly so but he has done what you want from your subs when they go on, he has made a difference to the game. He put a great ball in and Tom’s done the rest.

“We have not played well. It was a poor performance. I’d like to play better, I’d like to score more goals but it was another point, another game unbeaten and we need to keep picking up points to keep us away from what’s below us.”
