Boss says Blues can take pride in winger's development ahead of Pride Park clash
Mick McCarthy says he takes pride in how Tom Lawrence’s career has moved forward after his year at Portman Road.
The Wales international looks set to line up against Town for Derby on Tuesday night having spent last season loan with Blues.
Lawrence finished as the Club’s top scorer and was voted Player of the Year by his team-mates before joining Derby in the summer from parent club Leicester for a reported £5m.
The winger has also forced his way into the Wales starting line-up and has already bagged two goals for his country, both of them terrific strikes.
“I can take pride in what Tom is achieving now,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“We have helped in his development. When I took him no-one really knew much about him.
“He had loans spells at Yeovil, Cardiff and Blackburn and Leicester had signed him from Manchester United but the year he had with us was the best he’s had and he has carried that on at Derby.
“He had belief in his own ability but it’s about other people believing in your ability and he showed everyone last season what a good player he is and Derby had to pay £5m to get him.”
