Mick delighted with hard-fought win as Blues stay in Play-Off picture
Mick McCarthy said he’d take 23 wins and 23 defeats over the season because it would probably take Blues into the Play-Offs.
Town’s topsy-turvy campaign continued with an eighth win in 15 Championship games after goals from Martyn Waghorn, David McGoldrick and Bersant Celina gave Blues a 3-0 win over Preston, with Town a point off the Play-Offs with a game in hand.
“There are a lot of Championship games like that. They came here and were tough and resolute and it was a horrible game in the first-half,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“The one moment of quality was the move that led to the free-kick and Waggy has put it in the net.
“The two goals after the break were terrific though. Didz’s was a crucial goal straight after half-time and it was an amazing finish by Santi.
“There are different ways to win a football match and we saw that again today but I’ll take the three points however they come. I thought Adam Webster was terrific for us as well. That was his best game for us.
“What’s that, eight wins and seven defeats? I have said before, I’ll take 23 wins and 23 defeats because that will probably get us in the Play-Offs. I doubt it will happen but it was an important win and we can enjoy the international break now.”
