JONAS EYES WORLD CUP

20 November 2017

But Town comes first for Denmark defender

Jonas Knudsen is focused on Town but he’s hoping regular football for Blues can help him win a place in the Denmark squad for next summer’s World Cup.

The Town defender, who will miss this week's clash with Sheffield Wednesday after picking up a fifth booking of the season against Hull, was called up to the Danish squad for their 5-1 Play-Off aggregate victory over Republic of Ireland, and now has his eyes set on Russia 2018.

“It was brilliant to be called up again” the 25-year-old said in an interview in Wednesday’s matchday programme.

“It’s something I’ve been trying to do for a long time and this time I got it. A World Cup in Russia is now something I can hopefully look forward to.

“I’ll need to work very hard to do that but first and foremost I must focus with Ipswich. If you’re not doing well with your club you’ll never get in so that’s very important.

“To be involved in the World Cup would be special though.”
