Midfielder not ready for Preston as Teddy closes in on return as well

Mick McCarthy says Saturday’s game against Preston has come too early for Emyr Huws.

The Town midfielder, who has been named in the Wales squad for their friendlies against France and Panama, has recovered from an achilles injury which has kept him sidelined this season.

He made his comeback for the U23s in the draw with Colchester on Monday but the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich: “Emyr’s had one game with the U23s and one with Wales since May 7 so that doesn’t constitute being ready for Saturday.

“I anticipate him playing for the U23s on Monday and if he travels with Wales and gets some football there too then he should be fit when he comes back.

“The last thing I want is to put him in too soon and he gets injured again. If I did that I wouldn’t forgive myself.”

Tom Adeyemi continues to miss out with a hamstring injury but there is good news for Teddy Bishop, who is on the way back after groin surgery.

“Bish has been training with us this week and he says he feels fine,” added Mick. “It’s great to see how talented he and Emyr are and hopefully we’ll have them back soon.”
