Mick hails team togetherness as Town shut out promotion chasing Rams
Mick McCarthy was delighted with his team’s display as Town left Pride Park with three points.
Blues’ boss has never lost at the stadium and Callum Connolly’s first goal for the Club after five minutes - with Hawkeye judging his header over the line - proved to be the matchwinner.
“It was a terrific performance from my team tonight,” Mick told iFollow Ipswich.
“We stopped them having too many chances - and they are a good side. Bart’s made an outstanding save but we have defended well in front of him.
“We have benefited from technology twice now - and been on the receiving end at Leeds but I think that is right. If it’s over the line it should count and it’s the hardest thing in the game, scoring goals. That’s why they spend millions on strikers.
“Having got the goal, everyone put a shift in to make sure we stayed in front. People belittle that sometimes but there you go, that’s what you get when you put a shift in. You stick together, you are disciplined and you get a great victory like that.”
Mick added that he is hopeful that Joe Garner will be back for the game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The striker was ruled out with a foot injury.
