But boss fumes at challenge as Didz requires surgery

Mick McCarthy was delighted with his team’s performance despite being denied a deserved three points in added on time.

Joe Garner and Marytn Waghorn were on target for Blues but a header from Atdhe Nuhiu gave Wednesday a share of the spoils.

“I thought we were terrific, every one of them,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“We should have won. It was a great cross and a great header at the end but we shouldn’t have let the ball out of the corner. That was our naivety.

“Overall though, I was delighted with the performance. We weren’t as clinical as we might have been but having played as well as we did and created as many chances as we did, I will take that all day long.

“We will rue missing out on the three points but the really disappointing thing for me is if we let that affect us going forward.”

Town lost David McGoldrick at half-time after he was caught high by Glenn Loovens’ challenge though and the striker now faces surgery.

“Didz has got a nasty cut and needs an operation I’m told,” added Mick.

“If that tackle happens in the 70th minute, I guarantee you that he’s getting a yellow card at least, probably a red. He didn’t mean it but it was an appalling challenge.”
