McGoldrick one step closer to shoot-out with Denmark
David McGoldrick has been included in the Republic of Ireland’s provisional squad for their 2018 World Cup Play-Off against Denmark next month.
Then first-leg is in Copenhagen on November 11, with the return at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin three days later.
The Irish booked their place in the shoot-out, with a 1-0 win against Wales that secured second spot in their qualifying group.
Didz was in the 25 man party for the decisive qualifiers against Moldova and Wales but didn’t make the squad for matchday and returned home before Ireland’s win in Cardiff.
He is hoping to be included against Denmark though and told the Club website: “It’s a massive game against Denmark and of course I want to be involved.
“It was my decision to come home before the Wales game. I wasn’t injured.
“As much as it’s great playing for your country, it’s never the same if you are in the stands watching on.
“I wasn’t in the [matchday] squad for the Moldova game and that was going to be the same for Wales. I had a chat with Martin O’Neill and asked if I could go back and be with my family and he was fine with that. There were no problems.”
