I think I dreamt the half-time team talk says boss as Town pay for switching off
Mick McCarthy said Cardiff’s second goal straight after half-time was the defining moment in the game.
Omar Bogie added to Junior Hoilett’s opener just seconds after the restart and although Bersant Celina gave Town a late lifeline, Danny Ward wrapped up the points in added on time.
“I think I dreamt the half-time team talk,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“We passed the ball well first-half. We had our chances. Santi [Bersant Celina] and Kevin Bru were having an effect on the game.
“I was pleased with the first 45 and said ‘let’s have a good start. Let’s be positive right from the kick-off’. The kick-off was awful though and we have given away a ridiculous goal
“From their point, they will say it was a good goal but for us, it was so stupid, so naive and it killed the second-half completely.
“It knocked the wind out of us and for 20 minutes after that people might have said we don’t care and had chucked it in. We hadn’t and we all care but that second goal did that damage.
“We got a goal back at the end and then to concede the third goal as we did was frustrating to say the least. I have to say we should have had a foul on the edge of their box. I’m not sure how the referee didn’t see it but we should never have conceded from there anyway.”
