Boss looking for Town to bounce back in derby after narrow defeat at high flying Blades

Mick McCarthy said Town have to find a way to get something from games against the teams at the top of the table.

Blues matched Sheffield United for 90 minutes at Bramall Lane but went down to a Chris Basham header early in the second-half as the Blades went joint top of the Championship.

“They are a good side but there was nothing in it really, it was small margins,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“It was tiny mistakes from front to back and the ball lands in the back of the net and it ended up giving them the result.

“We had chances. Waggy [Martyn Waghorn] was excellent for us but we blinked first and that cost us.

“There has not been a lot between us and the teams that have beaten us - apart from Fulham who were very good on the day - but we have to believe we can get something from these games. We have to find a way.

“Sheffield have momentum and were aggressive and worked hard and that’s this league. We matched them for spells and like I say, it’s fine margins in the end.

“Now we have to bounce back and we’ve got a great game to look forward to next Sunday. It should be exciting for everyone.”

Town were missing Joe Garner with a knee problem with Mick adding: “He was a big loss for us. He’s been our talisman. His knee is swollen. Hopefully it will settle down over the weekend and he will be okay for Norwich.”
