Teenager ahead of schedule in first-team target

Tristan Nydam says he was targeting a first-team chance this season but he’s surprised the opportunity has come so quickly.

The 17-year-old has clocked up eight appearances for the Club this term, after making his debut in the Carabao Cup win at Luton in August.

“I thought I might have a chance of getting in the first-team picture this year when I played in the pre-season games but I didn’t expect to be involved so quickly,” said the versatile Blue in an interview in Saturday’s matchday programme.

“The manager has been great to push through the young players like Doz [Andre Dozzell], Flynn [Downes] and myself if he thinks we are ready and then it’s up to us to show we can cope at this level.

“When I look at where I am, I am probably ahead of schedule. I’m targeting maybe 10 starts this season. Making progress is the most important thing though. Helping the team progress and progressing as a player myself.”
