Blues comfortably beat Barnsle
Tom Adeyemi got another 80 minutes of football under his belt as Town's U23s continued their great start to the new season with a 3-0 win over Barnsley.
Danny Rowe, Ben Folami and Conor McKendry got the goals meaning Town have won four of their opening five fixtures.
The Blues started slowly, but grew into the game as it progressed and took the lead with just under 15 minutes on the clock.
Danny Rowe got it, and it was a tremendous finish from the winger as he cut inside before lashing the ball high into the net from the edge of the box.
Adeyemi came close to a goal himself as he arrived late to meet a Folami cross, but it was well held low by the Tykes' keeper.
Town took the lead into the break, but the visitors could have equalised minutes after the restart, but Gerken did well to parry clear an effort from Matthew Wolfe.
That save proved to be important as the Blues doubled their lead soon after, with Folami making it four U23 goals for the season as he cut in off the left before keeping a cool head to slot into the far corner.
Barnsley did come close to pulling one back through Amir Berkovits but he missed the target from close range after a deep cross had evaded everyone.
It was Town who were on the scoresheet next, though, as substitute Conor McKendry added a third and killed the game off, jinxing through the crowd in the box before squeezing the ball past the 'keeper as Gerard Nash's side made it three wins in a row.
