Boss hails players after thriller against the Lions

Mick McCarthy said the game against Millwall reminded him of his first three years in charge at Portman Road.

Martyn Waghorn scored twice in the second-half as Blues shared the spoils with the Lions in a thrilling game.

“We started really well and should have been ahead but then conceded and it looked like the same old story that we have had recently,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“We lost our way for a little while and we had to get it back again at half-time. I changed it to 442 and it was a fantastic second-half.

“The players were terrific again, especially having played on Saturday and we could have won it, they could have won it. They had the better chances at the end and Bart showed how good a ‘keeper he is again.

“It was a game like we had for the first three years here - a thrilling, exciting game with a great atmosphere and the crowd right behind us. I enjoyed it.”

Mick also paid tribute to Ben Folami, who made his League debut for Town as a half-time substitute.

“I spoke to him during the week and told him he should be in and around the team and not to waste the talent he has,” said Mick.

“He has trained well. I had an inkling about him and he did great.”
