PAUL | LET'S REWRITE WAGGY SCRIPT

21 August 2018

'He's a great lad and we wish him well - but not tonight' says boss

Town boss Paul Hurst says he’s hoping Town will keep the smile off Martyn Waghorn’s face tonight!

The striker left Blues for Derby at the start of the month - a year after he arrived at Portman Road from Rangers.

He was Town’s top scorer last season and looks set to face his former team-mates at Pride Park this evening.

“It’s one of those when the script is kind of written already, isn’t it. We’ll try and make sure that doesn’t happen,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“He’s a good player and I have to say that as well as his football ability, he’s a great lad.

“One thing that struck me when I worked with him is that he’s fiercely competitive. We saw that in training and applauded him for that attitude.

“He’s got a big smile. Hopefully we won’t see that tonight but we wish him well - just not against us!”

Waghorn is not the only Derby player with links to Town.  Former Academy graduate Jack Marriott is at Pride Park after joining them from Peterborough in the summer while ex-loanee Tom Lawrence has been a regular in their side over the past year.

You can watch the game live in the UK on iFollow Ipswich at just £10. Click here for full details.
