Town’s U18s fell to a 5-1 defeat against Colchester at Playford Road.

Albert Wilton’s 12th minute opener saw Blues make a positive start, but three first-half strikes from the visitors put them in the driving seat for the remainder of the contest.

Alan Lee’s side started the better team and had a deserved lead after Wilton diverted in Thomas Hughes’ whipped corner.

But Colchester immediately pushed for an equaliser and just eight minutes later they found one. Dean Ager making no mistake with a first-time finish from 12 yards.

Ager’s leveller proved to be the first of a quick-fire double as Callum Anderson thumped in a half-volley from the edge of the box moments later.

Noah Chilvers added two more for the visitors either side of half-time. Just before the break his in-swinging free-kick evaded everyone to find the bottom corner, and minutes after the restart he put the result beyond doubt with a fierce strike past Toby Egan in the Town net.

The away side had a fifth on 60 minutes as Ollie Kensoale tapped home from close-range after Blues failed to clear from a corner.

Jack Lankester had two chances for Town midway through the half but fired narrowly over on both occasions.

Wilton was close to netting a consolation in the final moments but his curling effort dropped just wide as Colchester left with all three points.
