Praise for Sears and Ward at Stadium of Light
Mick McCarthy felt Town were well worth the three points at the Stadium of Light.
Joe Garner’s 10th goal of the season gave Blues the edge 10 minutes before the break and on the stroke of half-time Adam Matthews put the ball in his own net from Grant Ward’s cross.
“We had to weather a storm at the start. They were getting too much joy and we had to change it,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“Wardy and Freddie [Sears] were excellent for us though. They gave us that drive and pace and we started to get in the game.
“It was a terrific goal from Garns and then the second one right on half-time is key. Chris [Coleman] has probably got a plan in place at 1-0 but he’s had to change it all together at two down.
“They kept going, Sunderland, and it’s not easy having come down from the Premier League. They are trying to turn around an oil tanker with a canoe paddle at the moment.
“Bart [Bialkowski] didn’t really have a big save to make in the second-half and it was a clean sheet which is great for everyone. It was a deserved win.”
