Boss: Result the key thing but great atmosphere and great winning goal

Mick McCarthy hailed the three points over Leeds as a ‘big, big win’ as Town stayed within sight of the Play-Offs.

Bersant Celina’s 25 yard blockbuster midway through the second-half won the game for Blues after Leeds had been reduced to 10 men before the break with Eunan O’Kane dismissed for a headbutt on Jonas Knudsen.

“It was game that had a bit of everything,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“They have brought 3500 fans, fantastic support. That has helped the atmosphere. Our fans have responded to that and it all spurred us on.

“There was a red card, plenty of tackles flying in. We played well and it was an unbelievable winning goal.

“Most importantly it was a big, big win for us. We have lost three on the bounce and needed to get the fans back onside and I think we did that today. It was a good performance and a great result.

“I said at half-time to Santi [Celina] and Didz [David McGoldrick] that they could be our matchwinners. They bring that stardust to our team but it wasn’t happening for them in the first-half. Maybe it wasn’t that type of game.

“Sometimes he is going to frustrate you but it’s risk v reward for Santi when he takes players on and we got the reward today.”
