Two first-half goals do the damage as Town are beaten at Portman Road
Town were unable to overturn a 2-0 half-time deficit as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield United at Portman Road.
Over course of the 90 minutes, Town rarely troubled the Blades, and they fell behind inside 12 minutes as Jordan Hallam arrived late in the box to sweep home a Tyler Smith cut-back.
Chris Smith did have the chance to level as he got on the end of an Adam McDonnell corner but he volleyed narrowly over the crossbar.
Not long after, though, the Blades doubled their lead. Tyler Smith wriggled free of Pat Webber before poking the ball home past Michael Crowe to give the visitors a 2-0 half-time lead.
C. Smith again met a McDonnell corner at the back-post midway through the second-half, but again the defender failed to hit the target to consign Town's U23s to their first defeat since October.
Town: Crowe, McLoughlin, Nydam, C. Smith, Webber, Hyam (Clements, 87), Sagaf (McKendry, 69), McDonnell, Morris, Folami, Drinan (Patterson, 89). Not used: Wright, Ndaba.
