PALACE U23S 2 TOWN 2

8 January 2018

First run out for Drinan as Town fight back for draw

Aaron Drinan made his first appearance in a Town shirt as the U23s drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace in the Professional Development League Two South.

Blues came from 2-0 down to earn a point at Palace’s Copers Cope training ground, with Conor McKendry and Albert Wilton on target for Gerard Nash’s side.

The hosts took just six minutes to open the scoring as Freddie Ladapo slotted under Michael Crowe after evading two challenges from Town defenders.

Eagles’ early dominance continued and in the 17th minute they doubled their advantage. Levi Lumeka accelerated beyond the Town back-line and found the net with a composed strike.

Blues responded well but two saves from Palace ‘keeper Dion Henry ensured the score remained 2-0 going into half-time.

Just five minutes after the restart McKendry reduced the deficit, the winger firing in with a first-time finish having latched on to a deep cross.

Crowe denied the home side with a string of saves and in the 87th minute his important stops were rewarded, substitute Albert Wilton converting from a Ben Morris cross to earn his side a deserved point.
