Waggy on the best man-manager he has worked with and playing some of the best football of his career

Martyn Waghorn has paid tribute to Town’s management staff for giving him the platform to play some of the best football of his career.

The former England U21 international is Blues’ leading scorer this season with 10 goals after arriving from Rangers in August and credits the relationship he has with boss Mick McCarthy and assistant Terry Connor as one of the reasons he has proved to be a big success at the Club so far.

“We have a great set of lads here and the manager and TC [Terry Connor] have given me the platform to go out and play,” said Martyn in an interview in Saturday’s matchday programme.

“The relationship between player and manager is crucial. You’ve got to have that understanding and mutual respect for each other.

“The gaffer is probably the best I have worked for in terms of man-management. The way he talks to you; giving you the responsibility to go out and show what you can do - and also demanding from you the very best.

“I’m loving it here and I think I’m playing some of the best football of my career.”

The matchday programme for the weekend visit of Wolves sees Martyn reveal why he’s out to be smash hit for a local charity; there are interviews with Town newboys Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Gleeson; Luke Chambers pays tribute to Tommy Smith and there is a final interview with the Blue before he heads for Colorado.
