BOSS' THANKS TO FANS

28 July 2018

We want them back here for the big kick-off says Paul

Paul Hurst hopes the Town fans can take some optimism from the performance against West Ham into next week’s Championship opener against Blackburn.

Blues pushed the Premier League Hammers all the way in the final friendly of pre-season before going down 1-2 in front of more than 15,000 at Portman Road.

“It was a great crowd and it was really nice to get the ovation I did walking out so I’d like to thank the fans for that,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“It is pre-season but I don’t like the word friendly and wanted us to compete and we did that for large parts.

“Overall I was really pleased with some of the performances. I wasn’t happy with the goals we conceded and I’m not one of those that will say that every time we concede. Sometimes you have to give the opposition credit but they were soft goals. Sometimes you will get away with it but when the opposition is better - as we are going to get in the Championship - we have to do better than that.

“I would have liked to have won the game but there were positive signs and hopefully the fans saw that.

“We want them all behind us for what will be a very competitive Championship season. Hopefully they feel there is some optimism there and we want them back here next Saturday for the big kick-off."
