Flynn in high spirits after encouraging end to pre-season
Flynn Downes said he enjoyed “every minute” of Town’s last pre-season outing against West Ham, despite falling to a 2-1 defeat at Portman Road.
The 19-year-old lined up in the middle of the park alongside Andre Dozzell and Tristan Nydam, meaning Blues’ central trio had a combined age of just 56.
“I don’t think it has happened before where the three of us have been out there at the same time so it was a good experience - I enjoyed every minute of it,” Flynn told iFollow Ipswich.
“I’ve known those guys since I was about eight so it was mad to be out there and when the gaffer told us the team there was definitely some excitement in the three of us.
“Overall it was a promising performance too. We knew what we were up against but I think we handled it excellently and showed quality throughout the whole 90 minutes.
“We stuck to our plan - pressing and playing out from the back, and I think up until about 80 minutes you wouldn’t have known which team was in the Premier League.
“Now we need to take that into the first game of the season. I would say the last two performances have been encouraging ahead of the Blackburn match next weekend.”
