Blues sign versatile defender from League Two champions
Town have signed versatile defender Janoi Donacien on loan from Accrington Stanley with a view to making the move a permanent one when his application for a work permit is cleared.
The loan deal is for the season and has been put in place while the paperwork is processed over the St Lucia born 24-year-old’s application to remain in the country.
Town and Accrington have agreed an undisclosed fee for the former Aston Villa Academy player which will be activated once the work permit is granted.
Janoi had loans spells at Tranmere, Wycombe and Newport before joining Stanley in August 2016. He has been a regular in their side over the last two seasons, making 80 League appearances with Accrington winning promotion to League One last season as champions.
“Janoi has done well over the last couple of seasons. He defends very well one v one and gets up and down the pitch,” Town boss Paul Hurst told the Club website.
“He is someone that again fits the profile of what we are looking for - someone who is hungry, has not played at this level before - and he’s at a good age that we feel there is progression there.
“He is versatile and has played right across the back four. He brings competition in all areas, particularly at full-back and that gives us options.
“We want that right across the squad, that competition for places and we’re delighted to have him here.”
