Praise for matchwinner Waggy as Town stay in the Play-Off hunt
Mick McCarthy felt Town deserved the three points at Hillsborough as Blues closed the gap on the Play-Offs.
Martyn Waghorn’s brace - his first goals since December - gave Town a 2-1 win, with the Club seven points off the top six with a game in hand.
“I think we had the best of it and deserved to win,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“Bart made a great save from Nuhiu in the first-half. I thought there was a push in the box but Bart saved it anyway, with his face I think.
“After we scored, we had chances to get a second. Their ‘keeper made a great save from Callum [Connolly] and then when they scored it looked like we might rue that.
“It was a great bit of quality from Waggy for the second goal. I’m pleased for him because it looked like he was getting frustrated in the first-half. He had a shot from a long way out and then pulled another one wide when perhaps there were better options.
“It was a sign of a striker who hadn’t scored for a while and desperate to get one so I’m pleased for him and I’m pleased for the whole team because it was a good performance and a great result and it sets us up for Saturday against Sheffield United.”
