Drinan on target, but Town beaten at Portman Roa
Aaron Drinan was at the double for the Blues, but Town's U23s were beaten by Leeds United at Portman Road.
Drinan started alongside Ben Morris and Myles Kenlock who had both been involved with the first-team in recent weeks and the Irishman got himself on the scoresheet twice in the second-half.
It was the Whites who controlled the game in the first-half and big forward Sam Dalby had the West Yorkshire side in front with just over 15 minutes on the clock after a tackle on the edge of the box had ricocheted into his path and found him in plenty of space before he powerfully found the net.
Leeds held that slender advantage into the break, but it didn't take them long to double it after the restart as Dalby doubled his tally, fending off Bailey Clements to latch onto a long ball and find the net from inside the box.
Drinan reduced the arrears on 57 as he nodded home a Conor McKendry corner but less than 60 seconds later it was 3-1 with Alejandro Machuca finding the far corner.
Town's Irish striker, Drinan put the home side back in with a shout with a strong, composed finish on 73 after he had the ball cut-back to him by Ben Folami.
The Blues pushed for an equaliser in the latter stages, but couldn't quite do so as Leeds held on to claim all three points.
