"He is getting the rewards for the hard work he’s put in" says Paul

Paul Hurst has paid tribute to Dean Gerken for his performances since returning to the team and says Town are getting back to having no first choice number one.

Gerks is set to make his 99th appearance for Blues in Saturday’s game against Bolton, having regained his place in the line-up at the start of this month.

“Dean has come a long way from when the players came back into training in pre-season,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“He had a serious injury and you could see that he was working his way back to fitness and building it up as he went along.

“I certainly wasn’t going to judge him then but now he’s out there on the training field and doing the same as everyone else and he is getting the rewards for the hard work he’s put in.

“He’s a great lad as well. He’s very popular; he’s got a voice about the place and at the moment he’s got the shirt.

“I think the idea a few years ago was that the Club didn’t have an out and out number one as such. The way it panned out - with Bart’s form and Gerks getting injured - it didn’t happen that way but we are getting back to that scenario now and that can only be good for the Football Club.”
