"The intensity was better, we played some good football but we couldn’t make it pay”
Paul Lambert was pleased with the display but said it was the ‘same old story’ with Town coming out on the wrong side of fine margins.
Wayne Routledge scored the only goal of the game just before the hour, with Collin Quaner denied an equaliser late on.
“It was much more like us and a positive response after the performance at Preston on Friday,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“There wasn’t too much in it. We had a couple of chances but it was the same old story, the same outcome. It’s fine margins again.
“That’s been the story of the season. The intensity was better, we played some good football but we couldn’t make it pay.”
Paul, his staff and the players took part in a lap of appreciation and the boss once again paid tribute to the Blue Army.
“They were unbelievable again,” he added. “I think they appreciate we’ve tried everything.
“We have entertained them to a degree without getting the results. That’s why I told the lads to stand in front of the North Stand and watch the supporters.
“With that support, you’ve always got a chance. This place will be different place next year for sure.”
