Blues beat Hornets as Elder completes almost an hour at Playford Road
Town U23s returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Watford this afternoon.
Kai Brown and Lounes Foudil (pictured) were on target for Gerard Nash's side at Playford Road.
Full-back Callum Elder returned to action having had an operation on his hernia and completed almost an hour for Blues.
Town, who have already been confirmed winners of the Professional Development League Two South division, started brightly and created the first half-chance of the game in the 15th minute. Brown collected the ball before firing towards goal but his shot was deflected and gathered by Hornets 'keeper Adam Parkes.
But Brown did put Town ahead nine minutes later. The young forward latched on to a through ball from Tyreece Simpson before neatly slotting into the bottom corner with his left foot.
Watford equalised with their first serious attack of the match just after the half-hour mark, though. Marley Blair cut in from the right before unleasing a fierce strike that flew past Blues shot-stopper Toby Egan and into the top corner of the net.
The hosts almost restored their advantage two minutes before the break but Armando Dobra's effort was saved by Parkes.
Level at half-time, Town made two substitutions as Simpson and Dobra were replaced by Collin Oppong and Foudil.
Within a minute of the restart Town captain Corrie Ndaba came close to restoring his side's lead but his header bounced off the top of the crossbar.
Chances were then few and far between but Blues did regain the lead 12 minutes from time as Foudil converted from a Brown cross via a Hornets defender.
The visitors had a chance in the dying stages but goalscorer Blair fired a free-kick wide of the target.
The U23s are next in action when they face Nottingham Forest in their final match of the regular season at Portman Road on Monday [kick-off 7pm].
