Chambers last gasp leveller gives Town a share of the spoils

Luke Chambers rescued a point for Town with an added on time equaliser.

James Norwood found the net after four minutes following an error by Christy Pym but the ‘keeper turned Posh’s hero in the second-half to keep out Norwood’s penalty.

Peterborough were ahead by then through goals from Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa and that looked enough to have taken the points until the skipper thumped in a header from a corner.

Gwion Edwards came in to face his former club in Town’s only change to the side that drew with Sunderland last time out in the league, with Blues backed by a 4000 travelling support.

Town got off to the perfect start, Myles Kenlock’s cross was dropped by ‘keeper Pym and Norwood was on hand to hook the ball into the unguarded net.

The early goal unsettled Posh and Edwards almost got in down the left, then from a Kayden Jackson cross, Flynn Downes fired over from the edge of the box.

Rowe tested Pym from 20 yards as Town pressed for a second, while at the other end Marcus Maddison’s free-kick was inches away from Toney’s head in Peterborough’s first look at Blues’ goal.

Maddison fired high and wide from George Boyd’s cross as the home side began to get a foothold in the game, Toney forcing Tomas Holy into a save with a header from Frazer Blake-Tracy’s cross, Toney then seeing his shot deflect over.

Rowe’s cross had too much on it for Jackson but on the half hour Posh were level, Maddison’s free-kick headed into the bottom corner by Toney.

Blues were almost back in front seconds later, Edwards’ curler clawed away at full stretch by Pym, Rowe’s 25 yarder drifting wide, then Edwards’ ambitious volley failing to test Pym.

Holy threw himself to his right to hold on to Maddison’s effort from his own half as Posh finished the first 45 minutes stronger than they started it.

Holy produced a massive save in the first two minutes of the second-half, denying Maddison when a Posh goal looked certain, the Town ‘keeper then beating out an effort from Eisa as Darren Ferguson’s team started on the front foot.

At the other end, Pym saved from Cole Skuse after Downes had set him up, the ‘keeper getting down to deny Edwards, Peterborough responding with Boyd sending a left footer over.

Just past the hour, Posh were ahead. Maddison feeding Eisa and he finished in style. Blues immediately making a change with Alan Judge on for Edwards.

Town didn’t have to wait long before having a gilt-edged chance to level, Jackson brought down in the box but Pym was equal to the task, saving Norwood’s penalty.

Judge sent a long range effort dipping over the bar, Town then making a second change for the last 15 minutes with Idris El Mizouni replacing Rowe, Serhat Tasdemir on for Maddison.

Posh making a second change with Joe Ward on for Eisa in the closing stages, Holy using his 6ft 9in to gather from Toney but with one minute left on the clock, Chambers reacted quickest at a corner to find the net with a terrific header.
