Blues fall to defeat at Playford Road as Will and Jon get minutes under their belt

Town U23s fell to a 1-0 defeat against Leeds United in the Professional Development League Two this afternoon.

A second-half header from Ryan Edmondson was enough for the visitors to take all three points at Playford Road, despite some late pressure from Blues.

Kai Brown saw his penalty saved 19 minutes from time before Dylan Crowe and Jon Nolan wasted good opportunities for Gerard Nash's side in the dying stages.

Will Keane completed 45 minutes while Nolan played the full match as the pair continue to work back to full fitness.

The first half-chance of the game fell to Armando Dobra. The Blues midfielder jinxed his way into the Leeds penalty area but dragged his effort wide of the target.

Jack Clarke was played through on goal in the 24th minute but his poked effort was saved by the feet of Blues shot-stopper Harry Wright.

Wright was called into action again two minutes later as he got down to his left to deny Nial Huggins from the edge of the box.

Town went very close just before the half-time whistle but Keane headed a yard wide from a Barry Cotter cross.

Ten minutes after the restart Edmondson broke the deadlock. Following a clash of heads almost 30 yards out from Town's goal, Leeds were awarded the drop ball and Kun Temenuzhkov immediately picked out Edmondson who headed beyond Wright.

In the 65th minute Wright did brilliantly to deny Leeds and Edmondson a second. A low cross from the left was diverted goalwards by the number nine but Wright superbly tipped the ball on to his crossbar.

Six minutes later Kai Brown was brought down in the box and stepped up to take the penalty himself but saw his attempt saved by Kamil Miazek.

Town then had two huge chances in stoppage time but were unable to salvage a point. Firstly Crowe pounced on a loose ball in the area but fired straight at Miazek, before Nolan headed Crowe's free-kick wide from eight yards out.

Town are next in action when they face Birmingham City away from home on Friday, 30 August [kick-off 1.30pm].
