Town close to three international call-ups that would trigger delay in Dale trip

Town’s game at Rochdale on Saturday, 7 September could be postponed.

That weekend is designated for internationals with no Premier League and Championship games taking place.

League One and League Two have a full fixture list but if a club receives three international call-ups then that club has to right to ask permission for the scheduled game to be postponed.

Anthony Georgiou, on loan from Tottenham, has been named in Cyprus’ squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers at home to Kazakhstan on September 6 and in San Marino three days later.

Armando Dobra has been included in the U19 squad for Albania for their two friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 7 and 9, while Alan Judge is in the provisional Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Switzerland on September 5 and Bulgaria four days later, with both games to be played at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin.

In addition, England’s U20 side have games against Holland and Switzerland, which could include Flynn Downes and Andre Dozzell.

It’s expected that both the England U20 and full Republic of Ireland squads will be confirmed towards the end of next week.

Town’s home game against Wycombe on October 12 and the trip to Oxford on November 16 also clash with international weeks.
