DONACIEN | CAREER DOUBTS AND TITLE BID

13 December 2019

“I’d love another chance to prove myself in the Championship"

Janoi Donacien says he’d love to have another crack at the Championship with Town after fearing his career at Portman Road might have been over before it had really begun.

The 26-year-old defender arrived at the Club from Accrington in the summer of 2018 but spent the second half of last season back at his former club on loan and in an in-depth interview in Saturday’s matchday programme, he admits he started to have doubts over his future.

“It was in my mind of course. I wasn’t playing games here and the gaffer [Paul Lambert] said go out and play,” explained Janoi.

“I did that at Accrington but your mind starts to play games with you then. It’s like I was in limbo.

“I spoke to the gaffer at the end of the season though and he said come back and fight for your place and that’s what I’ve done.

“Football is a rollercoaster of emotions. You have to be mentally strong to stick at it really. It all adds up to make you stronger as a person - not just as a footballer but in life.

“I’m playing games now and we’re in a good position in the league. We’ve got a really good squad, it’s about getting a few more wins now and getting that momentum going.

“We want to win the league, not just get promoted and I’d love to prove myself in the Championship. I played a few games last year. They didn’t really go my way but if I get another chance, I want to take it.”
