"I’m not putting players in as gifts. I’ll be going as strong as I can"
Paul Lambert says Town are going into the FA Cup to win it.
Blues kick off the cup campaign with a third round trip to Accrington on Saturday looking to progress to the next stage for the first time since 2010.
“There is no point in entering a competition if you don’t want to win it, is there,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
“It will be a difficult game. I went there with Wycombe so I know the surroundings but a lot of our players have come through League One and League Two and will know what to expect.
“We have one or two knocks. Deano [Gerken] has a bit of swelling after taking a heavy knock against Millwall so we will see how he is.
“I’ve got to look at the bigger picture as well but I’m not putting players in as gifts. They have got to have earned the right to play and I’ll be going as strong as I can.
“I’m sure we will have great support up there and we’re going up there to win.”
Town have three former Accrington players in the squad, Toto Nsiala, Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien.
