Draw to end pre-season campaign. Downes dismissed for Blues.

Town ended their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw against Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium.

In what was a fairly quiet contest, the game sparked into life in the dying stages as Flynn Downes was sent off for Blues, while Jabo Ibehre was dismissed for the hosts.

Neither side created any genuine chances early on, with the first real opportunity not coming until the 26th minute when Janoi Donacien couldn't quite rise high enough to meet a cross from Bailey Clements.

Six minutes later Andre Dozzell played in Kayden Jackson but the striker couldn't hit the target from a narrowing angle.

Following the half-time interval, Town again went close as substitute Alan Judge found James Norwood, but the forward was denied by Cambridge shot-stopper Callum Burton from close range.

Luke Garbutt, who was also introduced to the action at the break, almost put Blues ahead approaching the hour mark, but fired into the side netting from a very tight angle.

The visitors had the ball in the net in the 62nd minute but Norwood was adjudged to have used his arm to bundle the ball in.

Downes burst beyond the Cambridge back line with 20 minutes to play, but again Burton came to the rescue for the hosts as he blocked the midfielder's poked effort.

The Cambridge 'keeper was called into action again in the 76th minute as he pushed away Emyr Huws' drive.

Ibehre and Downes were then sent off with two minutes remaining. A strong tackle from the former saw Downes react before a melee in the middle of the pitch.
