Dusseldorf first opposition for Blues in Interwetten Cup in Germany

Town will play in the four team Interwetten Cup in Meppen, Germany on Sunday, July 14.

Blues will join Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, FC Utrecht who play in the Dutch Eredivisie and the hosts, SV Meppen, who compete in the third tier of the German league, in the tournament to be played at the Hansch-Arena.

Games will be played over 45 minutes duration, with penalties to decide a winner if needed.

Town will take on Fortuna, with a 2pm kick-off, with SV Meppen playing FC Utrecht at 3pm in two semi-finals.

The losing teams will meet at 4pm in a third place play-off while the final will kick-off at 5pm.

Town enjoy a close bond with Dusseldorf, with hundreds of supporters from Germany making annual trips to Portman Road and members of the Blue Army doing the reverse journey.

Blues lost 4-3 in a friendly at Fortuna in the summer of 2015 and drew 1-1 with FC Utrecht the same pre-season.
