"I think it says a lot about the Academy here that so many of us have got into the first-team squad"
Flynn Downes has paid tribute to the staff at the Academy and Paul Lambert after signing a new contract.
The 20-year-old midfielder has penned a new deal until 2022, with a year option on top, joining a string of fellow homegrown graduates to be rewarded for their progress at Portman Road.
“I think it says a lot about the Academy here, the staff that so many of us have got into the first-team squad and been given new contracts,” Flynn told iFollow Ipswich.
“All the coaches here, like Bryan [Klug], Hoggy [Chris Hogg], Lee [O’Neill], Alan Lee and all of them. I could name so many more, they have all helped me so much.
“The manager has been great for me as well. He has been there and played at the highest level and we all take on board what he says.
“It’s been a decent year for me personally. I have played a lot of games so that is pleasing. That is all I can ask for but obviously we are all really disappointed to be where we are in the table.”
