El Mizouni and Cotter fire Blues to victory over The Clarets
Town U23s beat Burnley 2-0 at Playford Road this afternoon.
Idris El Mizouni and Barry Cotter found the net as Blues secured victory over The Clarets with two first-half strikes.
Chances were few and far between in the early stages but approaching the half-hour mark Gerard Nash's side opened the scoring. Kayden Jackson surged down the right before cutting the ball back to El Mizouni who slotted in comfortably.
And five minutes later Town doubled their advantage. A strong gust of wind saw Andre Dozzell's free-kick drop kindly to Cotter in the six yard box, and the defender improvised brilliantly to backheel into the Burnley net from close range.
It remained that way until half-time but 13 minutes after the restart Harry Wright was called into action. The Blues shot-stopper got down to his right to deny WIll Harris before quickly jumping to his feet and blocking the rebound from Tinashe Chakwana.
The Clarets came close again soon after but Mitch George's free-kick cannoned off the crossbar.
Blues saw the game out comfortably and almost added a third through Simon Dawkins in the final moments but his fierce drive was tipped over by Burnley 'keeper Aiden Stone.
The U23s are next in action when they face Barnsley away from home on Friday [kick-off 2pm].
