YOUNG BLUES BOW OUT OF PREMIER CUP

13 March 2019

Leiston 2 Town 1

Town exited the Suffolk Premier Cup at the semi-final stage this evening following a 2-1 defeat against Leiston.

Tommy Hughes was on target for Blues at the Goldstar Ground in Felixstowe, but his strike proved in vain as Leiston netted a dramatic winner to progress to the final.

U18s manager Adem Atay was in charge of a young Town side and saw his team fall behind in the 14th minute. Leiston captain Tom Bullard bundled the ball over the line after Kyle Hammond's corner found him in the six yard box.

It remained that way until half-time but shortly after the restart Town were twice denied by Marcus Garnham. The Leiston shot-stopper did well to push away Armando Dobra's strike before impressively keeping out Conor McKendry's dipping effort.

But in the 68th minute Town equalised. Lounes Foudil found Hughes in the box and the attacker converted into the bottom corner after his initial shot was blocked.

Blues dominated possession for the remainder of the match but fell behind in the second minute of injury time as Harrison Bacon side-footed the ball beyond Town 'keeper Toby Egan.

Leiston will face either Stowmarket Town or Felixstowe & Walton United in the final of the Premier Cup at Portman Road on May 8.

Town: Egan, Crowe, Marshall, Webber, Clements, McGavin, Foudil, Dobra, Hughes (pictured), McKendry (Simpson 80'), K Brown. Subs not used: Alley, Henderson, Ruffles, Baker.
