“He came back and proved himself in pre-season and he’s not looked back since”

Luke Chambers has praised centre back partner Luke Woolfenden for making the most of his opportunity this season.

21-year-old Woolfenden has enjoyed loan spells at Bromley and Swindon Town before asserting himself in the heart of a Blues backline which boasts the best defensive record in League One.

Town have conceded just 12 goals in 16 league outings ahead of tonight’s top of the table meeting with Wycombe Wanderers.

“We play off each other pretty well. He understands the way I play and I understand the way he plays,” Chambo told iFollow Ipswich.

“He’s a tremendous lad, he’s a good professional. He’s got a very good cool head on his shoulders and that can be an advantage to you because he’s not overawed by any situation. He continues to go about his business.

“It’s really good to see him moving forward from last year. That shows the benefit of any young player when they’re looking at their route into the first-team. If they get some minutes under their belt on loan, anything can happen.”
