FA YOUTH CUP | TOWN 6 KING'S LYNN 1

6 November 2019

Young Blues comfortably progress under the lights at Portman Road

Town U18s advanced to the second round of the FA Youth Cup with a 6-1 win over King's Lynn Town at Portman Road this evening.

Connor O'Reilly, Tyreece Simpson, Zak Brown (2), Colin Oppong and Allan Viral were on target for Adem Atay's side, who will face Exeter City at home in the next round.

The Young Blues were in control from the start and took the lead in the 13th minute. O'Reilly darted in from the right before poking the ball underneath King's Lynn 'keeper Bradley Ironside with his left foot.

Eight minutes later Simpson headed in from Brown's cross to double the hosts' advantage - O'Reilly doing well to get the move started with a quick throw-in that caught The Linnets defence off guard.

Town could have added a third before the break but for some brilliant last-ditch defending from the away side. Ironside stayed big to deny Liam Gibbs one on one, before Oppong and Simpson both saw strikes cleared off the line.

But eight minutes after the restart Blues did extend their lead. Brown took a pass in his stride before rounding Ironside and smashing into the roof of the net.

Just a few minutes later Oppong headed in a fourth, before Town shot-stopper Jake Alley was called into action for the first time as he saved Luke Johnson's low drive with his left foot.

Fifteen minutes from time Brown scored his second with a delighftul chip that found the net via the post.

King's Lynn scored a deserved consolation five minutes later through Joseph Taylor. The number nine collected the ball in the box before producing a good low finish that beat Alley.

Substitute Allan Viral was brought down in the 85th minute to win Blues a penalty, but Brown, looking to complete his hat-trick, saw his low shot from the spot held by Ironside.

Viral netted a wonderful sixth in the last minute, though, as he curled in from the corner of the area.

Details of Town's clash with Exeter City at Portman Road in the second round will be released in due course.
