“The lads were very professional from start to finish"

Stuart Taylor praised the players for a professional performance after Blues booked a place in the next round of the Trophy with victory over Gillingham.

Early goals from Emyr Huws and Jordan Roberts gave Town the advantage at the break and then an own goal and a slick Will Keane finish completed the 4-0 scoreline.

There was also a debut for the Academy’s Tommy Hughes as a late substitute.

“The lads were very professional from start to finish,” Stuart told iFollow Ipswich.

“I thought we controlled and dictated every minute of the game and scored some excellent goals as well.

“The early goals helped. It was nice to see Emyr score. He’s always a goal threat in and around the box. I was delighted for him.

“Winning becomes a habit and we want it to continue. It was also pleasing to win in the manner we did tonight.

“It was great to see Tommy Hughes out there as well. He had a tough time with a leg break but we have a good Academy here and this is what this tournament is for us, getting as many of the young players out on the pitch.”
