“We go into every game trying to win it. It will be no different tonight" says boss

Paul Lambert says it will be a mix of younger players and seniors who need game time when Town take on Tottenham U21 at Portman Road tonight.

Blues face the Premier League club in the first group match in the Trophy and the Town boss says it will be a completely different team from the one that beat Shrewsbury at the weekend.

“We go into every game trying to win it. It will be no different tonight and I expect a performance from the players but our priority is clear for this season. It’s the league that really counts for us,” writes Paul in his column in tonight’s matchday programme.

“There will be a lot of changes from the side that beat Shrewsbury. We have to look after the players because there are so many games to play this season.

“We could end up playing 55, 60 matches this year. That’s far too many in my opinion. It’s not healthy for the players; it’s not healthy for the game but we have to deal with it.

“We will give a chance to some of our younger players. We will also be looking to get minutes into some of the senior players. Emyr Huws is one that needs some game time. Jon Nolan is another.”

Kick-off is 7.45pm with penalties to decide a winner if a draw at 90 minutes. The game is being streamed live on iFollow if you can’t get to Portman Road.
