Local boxer hoping for bout at the home of Town
Fabio Wardley is plotting a Portman Road fight after becoming the English Heavyweight Champion.
The local boxer stopped Simon Vallily in the third round to claim the title, his bout taking place earlier this month at Eddie Hearn's Fight Camp.
Fabio, who was in Blues' Academy for a short period of time as a youngster, now has a record of 9-0 having stopped all but one of his opponents.
The 25-year-old says that he has been overwhelmed by the local support and is hoping to fight at Town's home stadium in the future.
He told iFollow Ipswich: "That would be massive. That's definitely the goal and on the list of plans we want to do. I need a bit more time and obviously the right fight to fill this place out. I definitely think that's something we could do down the line.
"It was a really weird experience to come back and scroll through my phone and every feed was about me. The paper and you guys [the Club] really got behind me. It was great and quite overwhelming really, I was massively thankful and humbled by it.
Fabio had hoped to have been in attendance for the scheduled game with Bolton in April before the Covid-19 pandemic saw Town's season curtailed and his title fight postponed, something that both the Club and Fabio are hoping to rearrange in the near future.
"It would've been a massive moment. It'd have been great for me and that little 'give back' moment to everyone that did give me that support. My family are massive Town supporters so they'd have loved that as well. Hopefully, in the near future we can get that done."
