Words of sympathy for Norris as well as Town go down to Posh

Paul Lambert said Town have to improve the home form after watching his team go down to defeat against Peterborough.

Posh moved above Blues in the top six with two goals from Sammie Szmodics added to a penalty from Ivan Toney and a slick finish from Siriki Dembele. James Norwood scored a late consolation for Town from the penalty spot.

“We started the game okay but we should have done better for the first goal,” the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.

“It looked a penalty where I was standing from and then you can’t legislate for the second goal. It was a mistake by Will [Norris] and he’s down about that which is understandable.

“It was a mistake in the middle of the park for their third and the horse has bolted by the time they get their fourth.

“We kept going but they were better than us and deserved to win.

“We have to improve our home record, definitely. We have to deal with the expectation and I understand people’s frustrations but we also need everyone to stick together.

“The good thing is that we are only two points off the automatic places and there is a lot of football to be played yet, a lot of football.”

Paul had words of sympathy for Will, who was robbed by Szmodics for the second goal.

“The lad has been great since he has been here. He’s our player. He’s had a hard time with a couple of goals lately but he will have to deal with it, he knows that,” said the boss.

“It’s tough when you’re a ‘keeper. When you make a mistake, it ends in a goal. Make a mistake in midfield and someone can get you out of it.”

A thigh injury to Luke Garbutt added to Town’s woes, the Everton loanee forced off in the first-half.
