Judge and Jackson at the double as Town find goal touch

Town recovered from a goal down to take the three points in style with Alan Judge and Kayden Jackson each bagging a brace.

Will Keane was close to giving Town the lead inside the first few minutes but it was the Brewers who did find the net through Jamie Murphy’s deflected finish.

Judge rattled the bar with a right foot effort and it was the Irishman who levelled for Blues after Jackson had set him up.

Jackson struck just before the break to put Blues in front and then put daylight between the teams with a well controlled header six minutes into the second-half.

Judge sealed the win with a fourth for Town just past the hour and it could have been five when Jackson raced clear looking for his hat-trick but substitute ‘keeper Ben Garratt diverted the ball wide.

Luke Garbutt returned to the team having recovered from injury, while Keane came in up front and Josh Earl was handed his home debut.

Judge, another change from the side that was held by Wimbledon in midweek, made early in-roads down the right but it was from the other flank that Town had a gilt-edged chance to open the scoring, Jackson setting up Keane 12 yards out but he delayed his shot and the threat was cleared.

Burton made Blues pay a minute later, Murphy finding space down the left and he cut inside to slide the ball past Tomas Holy.

Murphy tested Holy with a curler, the ‘keeper tipping over Joe Powell’s effort as Burton enjoyed a positive spell, then at the other end Keane drove a ball into the danger area but it drifted wide.

Judge was inches away from an equaliser on 20 minutes, Flynn Downes sent the Republic of Ireland international clear and he smashed a right footer against the bar.

Judge stopped to get his head on Earl’s cross but couldn’t direct it goalwards, Keane then sent Jackson clear and the striker rounded Kieran O’Hara but his angled shot flew over the bar.

Town got back on level terms on the half hour, Judge finding the net from Jackson’s cross, the former Brentford player celebrating by throwing his boots 20 yards!

Powell responded for Burton with a left footer over from the edge of the box, Garbutt’s free-kick deflected just wide, then Oliver Sarkic’s free-kick was comfortably held by Holy.

A minute before the break, Blues were ahead, Jackson alert to Holy’s clearance downfield and he showed great composure to lift the ball over O’Hara and into the net. Burton’s woes were made worse by an injury to their ‘keeper, Garratt the replacement and the substitute was immediately in the action, making an excellent save to deny Keane from Jackson’s cross in the last action of the half.

Keane almost got on the end of Earl’s long ball as the second-half got underway, the striker then denied by Richard Nartey’s challenge inside the box as Town took the game to the visitors.

Blues weren’t to be denied though and six minutes after the restart Paul Lambert’s side extended the lead, Judge’s cross and Jackson did brilliantly to steer his header into the net.

The injured Nartey made way for Kieran Wallace in a second forced change for Burton on the hour but Town made it four soon after, Judge’s shot slipping past Garratt and over the line - just.

Keane and Jon Nolan were replaced by Teddy Bishop and Cole Skuse in Town’s first changes and Bishop’s first touch saw him force Garratt into an excellent save.

Earl denied Lucas Akins as Burton looked for a lifeline, Jackson then sprinting clear with a hat-trick on but Garratt did enough to deflect the ball wide with his feet.

Freddie Sears replaced Judge for the closing stages and Town could have added to the scoreline when the substitute won possession and drilled a shot at Garratt with Jackson ready to pounce for his third.

The win ends Blues’ four match run without a victory and sees Town score four at home for the second time in four games.
