Skipper tips young Blue for high-flying Premier League club and says Woolfy can push on as well
Luke Chambers says Flynn Downes has the ability to play for a leading club in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been the subject of transfer speculation all through the January transfer window with West Ham said to be one of the clubs closely monitoring his progress.
“You could see Flynn had something about him from day one,” the skipper writes in his column in Saturday’s matchday programme.
“He has gone about his business in a focused way. He is a credit to himself and his family and he deserves all the speculation he is getting now about this club and that one being after him.
“Teams have been mentioned but I see his potential as being at a club that regularly competes in the top 10 of the Premier League.
“He can run as fast as he wants; he is strong; he is great on the ball. He gets all over the pitch. We are lucky to have him.
“Luke Woolfenden is the same. He’s another one that can really push on in his career.
“They are both young and are still learning. They are potential but they have the right credentials to really go places. They have the right work ethic for starters. That’s a battle won in itself.
“They are so exciting to have around and we need to keep them. The best way of doing that is to get promoted. It gives us a better chance anyway.”
