"We are one of the main talking points. We are the first game on. If we don’t win, it’s a talking point"
Freddie Sears accepts that the weight of expectation may have taken a toll on the players this season.
Town started the campaign among the favourites to win promotion but go into Saturday’s game against Coventry six points off the Play-Off places.
“Ipswich Town is a big football club. Maybe we are the club that everyone is looking for this season,” said Freddie in an interview in Saturday’s matchday programme.
“Last year, you’d go on the Saturday night football show and we’d be at the end of the Championship section, this season we are one of the main talking points. We are the first game on. If we don’t win, it’s a talking point.
“That is a new pressure for a lot of players but we have to deal with that. If you play for a big club like this one, you have to but we have fallen short lately in our performances and results.
“It’s about standing up and being counted now. These are the pressure situations you want as a player, to be involved in promotion chases. You are paid to deal with it as well.”
