"You have to think of a player's welfare and this new system supports that"
Paul Lambert has reiterated his support for the EFL's introduction of five permitted substitutions in League fixtures for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.
The EFL Board announced on Wednesday that the decision would be in place from Friday, 20 November at midday.
"I think it's [the demanding schedule] been too much for clubs to cope with," the Town boss said.
"It was the right thing to do because we have seen more injuries for clubs up and down the country.
"You have to think of a player's welfare and this new system with five subs supports that.
"We're trying to get through a season in a shorter period so it has been demanding on the players."
