£500,000 raised to help local youngsters
Town contributed to Ed Sheeran’s Made in Suffolk charity auction which raised £500,000.
The auction saw 240 lots go ‘under the hammer’ over the weekend with memorabilia from a whole host of celebrities including David Beckham, Usain Bolt and Kylie Minogue up for grabs.
Town fan Ed donated a vast array of items from his highly successful career in the music industry as well as personal mementoes, including lego bricks from his childhood.
The opportunity to play a 90 minute game for two teams at Portman Road, under the management of Town legends Terry Butcher and George Burley, raised £4500, with another £740 generated through a matchday hospitality package for 10.
The auction will aid local charity GeeWizz in redeveloping a playground for youngsters with disabilities and special educational needs. The £300,000 project will be based at Ipswich’s Thomas Wolsey Ormiston Academy.
The rest of the funds will go towards St. Elizabeth Hospice, which offers support for young people with incurable illnesses.
