Striker set to face former side

Oli Hawkins says that a run in the FA Cup can only be a positive thing ahead of today’s first round tie against Portsmouth.

This afternoon’s match [kick-off 3pm] will see the Town striker come up against Pompey for the first time since switching Fratton Park for Portman Road in the summer.

Oli spent the previous three seasons with Portsmouth, having moved to the south coast in 2017 from non-league side Dagenham.

Blues' schedule is a busy one - with the season condensed following the continued disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic - but the 28-year-old believes that progressing in the FA Cup is something that every team will still be hoping for.

"When I saw what teams were left, I knew we were going to get Portsmouth at home or away," Oli told the Club website.

"I’m looking forward to seeing some friends and I’m looking forward to trying to beat my old team.

"I think every team would like a run. Going far in the FA Cup might give players chances to play. The FA Cup is a massive competition and we’ve got a really big squad."

Today’s match is available to watch for free via the BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer.
